Sarek’smountainsusedtobecoveredbyvastsheetsofice.Around9,yearsago,thisicemelted,leavingbehindaboutglaciers.Soonafter,reindeerbegantoarrive.FollowingthereindeerweretheSamipeople,whomadethisterritorytheirhome.Gettinghereisquitedifficult,soapartfromtheSamiveryfewpeoplehaveeverseenSarek.In,Sarekwasmadeanationalparkinordertokeepthelandinitsnaturalstate.ThoughtheSamiareallowedtocontinuetheirtraditionalwayoflifeinthepark,nooneelsecanlivehere,andallnewdevelopmentisbannedwithinparkboundaries.Atthefarsideofthevalley,anancientSamicottageisvisible.Closeby,thereareafewreindeerfeedingongrass.
